These are for a full analysis. Time a run is less precise, so read its splits as a pattern across gates rather than one by one.

How it was measured.

Plain and repeatable: a person marks the gates, Risegate marks the gates, and the two lists are compared.

    Nine runs

    Eight on one course, filmed at 30 frames per second, and one at 24.

    Every gate marked by hand

    A person stepped through each video frame by frame and marked the moment the skier passes each gate: 253 in all.

    Paired in order

    Risegate's gates are matched to the person's, one after another, and a pair only counts within 12 frames. A gate the person marked that Risegate didn't find is a miss; a Risegate gate with no match is an extra.

    Counted in frames

    The gap between each pair is measured in frames. At 30 frames per second, one frame is a thirtieth of a second.

These runs were also used while building gate detection, and all of them were filmed below the 60 frames per second we now ask for. Read the numbers as a best case until more footage has been tested.

What the numbers don't cover.

Everything comes from one flat video. That makes some readings solid and others rough.

What to trust

  • Turn count, rhythm and turn length
  • How lean and hip bend move through each turn
  • Change from one session to the next

What it doesn't do

  • Official race timing
  • Speed, distance or 3D angles
  • Exact angles in degrees

Good to know

  • Results can differ slightly between two computers, so compare runs processed on the same one
  • Scores compare you with your own past sessions. They aren't a skill grade
